This scholarship has been established in memory of Betty Scholtz, former member of the Woodstock Fanshawe Singers, to honour her contribution to the choir and musical community. As a young woman, it was Betty’s dream to pursue a musical education.  While financially unable to fulfill her dream, it was Betty’s wish to assist others to do so.
The Woodstock Fanshawe Singers will assist others to pursue a musical career in Betty’s honour.

One $1000 scholarship will be awarded yearly to a student who resides in Oxford County, who wishes to pursue post secondary musical education.  Consideration will be given to students pursuing studies in a recognized musical program in one of the following categories; vocal/choral, musical theatre, performance, conducting or compositions. Payment of this scholarship will be administered by the WFS directly to the successful candidate upon receipt of appropriate documentation of enrolment.

The criteria are as follows:

  1. The secondary school applicant must reside in Oxford
  2. The secondary school applicant must demonstrate evidence of participation in musical programs prior to their pursuit of post secondary studies. (i.e. enrollment in music courses in high school, private music study)
  3. Preference will be given to students who do not have numerous other awards or scholarships.
  4. The essay (suggested 500 words limit) will address the following:
    1. What impact would receiving this scholarship have on your ability to pursue post secondary musical education?
    2. What roles does music play in your life?
  5. Please provide a letter of recommendation supporting this application under separate cover. See the forms below for your referent to print, complete and return.
